Resumen:
En el marco de conmemoración del Bicentenario de la República de Chile, se ensaya destacar algunas referencias del proceso de urbanización que estimuló el proceso independentista y el rol que asumiría la ciudad de Santiago como capital del  nuevo país, hasta culminar en su transformación en una metrópolis, según la previsión de sus planificadores urbanos en los últimos 50 años. Se examinan algunas tendencias de este proceso de metropolización y se exploran algunas hipótesis para el trabajo de investigación urbanística en Santiago.

Abstract:
In the frame of commemoration of the Bicentennial one of the Republic of Chile, it is rehearsed to highlight some references of the urbanization process that it stimulated the independence process and the role that it would assume Santiago's city like capital of the new country, until culminating in their transformation in a metropolis, according to the forecast of their urban planners in the last 50 years. Some tendencies of this metropolitan process are examined and some hypotheses are explored for the work of urban investigation, in Santiago.
