RESUMEN
El texto es una reflexión respecto de la lectura e interpretación de la obra arquitectónica. Busca establecer relaciones entre proyecto, realidad, y discurso  del futuro. Se interesa, en especial, por la relación entre la esteticidad y simbolismo arquitectónico del espacio urbano y las tendencias socio-políticas de la acción gubernamental

Se analizan dos momentos de la acción arquitectónica y urbanística de la Corporación de Mejoramiento Urbano CORMU en la ciudad de Santiago de Chile entre los años 1966 y 1976. El primero corresponde a las remodelaciones urbanas impulsadas por el gobierno Demócrata Cristiano de Presidente Eduardo Frei Motalva, en el marco de un impulso de transformación sociopolítica. Se busca entonces, anticipar la imagen de la ciudad del futuro mediante un diseño urbano fuertemente centrado en un lenguaje modernizador. La remodelación San Borja es el principal exponente epocal de este propósito.

El segundo momento corresponde al del gobierno de la Unidad Popular del presidente Salvador Allende Gossen y su proyecto de transición al socialismo. En este período las remodelaciones urbanas pericentrales están destinadas a la clase obrera. Representan el intento de acortar las distancias sociales al interior de la ciudad. Las remodelaciones San Luis, Mapocho Bulnes, Polígono de Tiro, Padres Carmelitos son buenos ejemplos de una época que marca la fisonomía con el sello de la modernidad arquitectónica.

ABSTRACT
The text is a reflection about the reading and interpretation of the architectural work.  It seeks to establish relationships between architectural projects, reality, and discourse of the future.  It is particularly interested on the relationship between the aesthetics and architectural symbolism of urban space and the socio-political trends of the governmental action.

Two moments of urban and architectural labor of the Corporation of Urban Betterment CORMU, in the city of Santiago of Chili, between 1966 and 1976, are analyzed. The first corresponds to the urban renovations driven by the Christian Democratic Government of President Eduardo Frei Motalva, within the framework of a socio-political transformation. It is look for then anticipate the image of the city of the future through an urban design strongly focused on a modernizing language. The San Borja remodeling is the main exponent epochal for this purpose.  

The second moment corresponds to the Popular Unit government of the President Salvador Allende Gossen and his project of transition to socialism. In this period the peri-central urban renovations are aimed at working class. They represent an attempt to shorten the social distances inside the city. St. Louis, Mapocho Bulnes, Polygon of Tyre, Fathers Carmelitos, and others renovations are good examples of an epoch marked by the image of architectural modernity.
