RESUMEN
El texto busca describir y caracterizar  el fenómeno del crecimiento urbano de la ciudad de Santiago en el período 1979-2009. El autor utiliza algunos conceptos de la Teoría de la expansión del universo o Big-Bang, comparándolos con el constante crecimiento del límite urbano en la ciudad de Santiago.

Dentro del escenario en el que los sistemas financieros poseen la capacidad de desestabilizar las economías,  se analiza la producción del espacio urbano. Se examina también, el rol del Estado como ente planificador de la ciudad, el cual opera en conjunto a las leyes del mercado neoliberal.

Finalmente se describen las consecuencias generadas en la ciudad por esta política urbana de fuerte carácter especulativo inmobiliario.

Como cierre, se esbozan algunas ideas sobre bio-urbanismo y reflexiones en torno al impacto del reciente terre-maremoto en Chile sobre la especulación inmobiliaria.

ABSTRACT
The text seeks to describe and characterize the phenomenon of urban growth of the city of Santiago in the period 1979-2009. The author uses some concepts of the expansion theory of the universe or Big-Bang, as a resource to describe the steady growth of the urban limit in the city of Santiago.
In the scenario in which financial systems have the ability to destabilize the economies, the production of urban space is discussed.  Also, it is reviewed the work of the State as planner of the city, which operates throughout the neo-liberal market laws.
Finally, are described the impacts in the city, produced by this urban policy of strongly speculative real estate character.
To close, are outlined some thoughts on bio-urbanism and reflections on the impact of the recent earthquake and tsunami in Chile on the real estate speculation.
