Resumen
¿Cuál es el significado conmemorativo del bicentenario de la gestación de la republica chilena?, ¿que puede ser celebrado?, ¿Qué ha pasado en el transcurso de los últimos cien años de vida republicana?, Hacer memoria puede implicar también una activa labor de consolidación de olvidos.

Se propone examinar el paisaje arquitectónico y urbanístico que Santiago tendrá, en el momento celebratorio del Bicentenario de la independencia nacional, La perspectiva a trazar apunta a la historia de ese paisaje, a los hechos que configuran el cuerpo y marcan el rostro urbano. Se propone examinar las arquitecturas de ciudad con que se han ido constituyendo significativamente el cuerpo y rostro urbano de la ciudad de Santiago en el transcurso de este segundo siglo. Se quiere explorar los vectores sociales, políticos, y económicos que subyacen en las conformaciones de la “arquitectura de la ciudad” y en su expresividad simbólica

Se eligen para este propósito cuatro operaciones urbanas. Una es la formación del Barrio Cívico, expresión de la civilidad republicana. Otro es el desarrollo de grandes barrios de vivienda social durante la fase del capitalismo de Estado orientado por un proyecto nacionalista de impulso industrializador. Un tercero es el de acciones de renovación urbana que buscan reducir las distancias sociales en el espacio metropolitano, en el marco del proyecto político organizado hacia una “Transición al Socialismo”. Finalmente se presentan los centros de negocios que actualmente emergen en Santiago, como expresiones del “capitalismo líquido” triunfante.

Abstract
Which is the commemorative meaning of the bicentennial of the gestation of the Chilean republic? ¿what can be celebrated? ¿What has happened in the course of last one hundred years of republican life? To make memory can also imply one active work of consolidation of forgetfulness.

It is proposed to examine the architectonic landscape and city-planning that Santiago will have, at the moment of the celebration of the Bicentennial of national independency. The perspective to draw up aims at the history of that landscape, to the facts that form the body and mark the urban face. It is proposed to examine the architectures of city whereupon they have been significantly constituted the body and urban face of the city of Santiago in the course of this second century. It is wanted to explore the social, political, and economic vectors inherent to the conformations of the “architecture of the city” and in its symbolic expressiveness.

Four urban operations are chosen for this intention. One is the formation of the Civic District, expression of the republican civility. Another one is the development of large districts of social housing in a phase of the capitalism of State, oriented by a nationalistic project of industrializing impulse. Third it is the process of urban renewal oriented to reduce social distances in the metropolitan space, within the framework of a organized political project toward a “Transition to socialism”. Finally, as an expression of the triumphant liquid capitalism, centers of businesses emerging presently in Santiago are presented.
