RESUMEN

Frente los problemas de congestión urbana vehicular, la ingeniería vial utiliza soluciones habituales tales como ensanches de calles y soterramientos, las que en muchas oportunidades  acarrean  consecuencias socio-patrimoniales y económicas negativas a los lugares en que se efectúan. 

Desde una visión de la arquitectura entendida como constructora del patrimonio poético, cultural y ambiental del entorno urbano que interviene, propongo solucionar los atochamientos señalados mediante la construcción de vías elevadas de diseños innovativos concebidos para respetar y poner en valor el patrimonio de los lugares que atraviesan y aportar servicios y calidad paisajística a dicho medio.

Este trabajo incluye ejemplos de casos que ilustran la posible aplicación de esta idea en tres comunas de Santiago.

ABSTRACT

In order to solve traffic congestion problems, road engineering disciplines normally use solutions such as street widenings or road burials, measures that in many occasions lead to negative consequences upon social, heritage and economical values of the places involved.     

From the point of view of architecture, understood as the building of a poetic and cultural heritage environment, I propose the construction of innovative designed raised streets to solve traffic congestion problems, in conjunction with respecting and emphasising common heritage and contributing with community facilities and landscape quality.
