RESUMEN

El autor, desde una perspectiva actual,  realiza una revisión crítica frente al proyecto propuesto el año 1972 para el Concurso Internacional de Proyectos. Este concurso titulado “Área de remodelación del centro poniente de Santiago de Chile”, contó con la participación del autor como parte de un equipo de arquitectos.

El texto explica las lógicas proyectuales utilizadas en la propuesta, a la luz de una visión contemporánea y crítica. Dado el caso, el artículo se inscribe en un marco reflexivo centrado en la relación entre arquitectura y ciudad, identificando aquellas relaciones y variables determinantes de la idea del proyecto.

En un segundo momento, se realiza una reflexión crítica que apunta al paradigma actual del urbanismo de mercado, en contraste con aquellas actuaciones en la ciudad que se realizaron desde la esfera pública en el Chile de comienzos de los ’70.

Finalmente, el autor pone en evidencia los conflictos que actualmente se identifican en la ciudad contemporánea, específicamente en el ámbito arquitectónico, discutiendo los alcances de lo interdisciplinar en la proyección arquitectónica, así como también el rol social que la arquitectura debiese poseer frente a un contexto de vulnerabilidad social.

ABSTRACT

The author, from today's perspective, makes a critical review against the project proposed in 1972 in the International Projectcompetition. This contest entitled "Redevelopment area of downtown west of Santiago de Chile" was attended by the author as part of a team of architects

The text explains the design logic used in the proposal, in the light of contemporary and critical view. The article is part of a reflective framework focusing on the relationship between architecture and city relations and identifying those variables determining the project idea.

In a second step , a critical reflection that points to the current paradigm of the urban market , in contrast to those activities in the city that were conducted from public sphere in Chile in the early '70s.

Finally, the author highlights conflicts currently identified in contemporary city, specifically in the field of architecture, discussing the interdisciplinary scope of architectural design as well as the social role architecture should possess against a background of social vulnerability.
